MODERN TROPICAL LANDSCAPE
With stunning views, this new build, waterfront property in Northland commanded a certain quality. The landscape was to become an extension of the home and flow out to the water. The key characteristics desired of this space was a clean structured space balanced with relaxing tropical planting. The space needed to be functional and allow space for entertaining and relaxing.
The narrow-sloped space allowed the space to be divided into a few different spaces through terracing the embankment. The top level comprises of the main composite deck, with two wider spaces below, an area of tiger turf to the south and an exposed concrete pad to the north. These spaces provided enough space for this outdoor area to be very versatile in its use. On the water, a pontoon jetty on the central axes allows the property to extend out into the Marina. All these spaces are linked by a striking, tapering set of concrete stairs that enhance the central axes.
The white rendered retaining walls dividing the different spaces compliments the white details of the house and frames the different spaces.
A mix of exotic and native planting in pebble garden beds soften this space adding texture and contrast from the clean lines while still allowing the strength of the structures through.
